New Zealand is facing a potential shortfall of electricity supply between 7am and 9am tomorrow morning because of an unseasonal cold snap and low wind generation.
The System Operator advises there is a risk of insufficient generation and reserve offers to meet demand and provide security for a contingent event.
Transpower will work with electricity lines companies around New Zealand to switch off controllable load like hot water systems tomorrow morning to reduce demand.
If response across the country is insufficient, the system operator will manage demand to alleviate the Grid Emergency. The system operator may instruct the grid owner to disconnect feeders without further notice to connected parties. System Operator will issue a GEN which may require participants to shed load to avoid disconnection or further system consequences.
We are well placed to handle any power supply constraints and expect no impact on customer services in the event of energy restrictions.
